  • I went to the Eisbären Berlin hockey game. It was pretty fantastic. They won. Danny Brière got an assist.
The atmosphere at the game was much, much better than in the NHL as the supporters club sings and claps and pounds drums for the entire game. I guess this is what develops when every fan can actually easily attend the game.
Some other things about German league hockey that I noticed:
- Commercial break is called a “power break”
- Everyone gets paper fans which makes a clapping noise when you hit them against your hand or leg and it’s much louder than regular clapping.
- Folks whistle when they’re mad at the ref.
- Folks also whistle when the other team has a power play and is in their offensive zone.
- Not a lot of hitting at all.
- Almost no replays on the jumbotron
- Maybe my view is skewed because as a Canucks fan I am used to watching the masters, but Eisbären doesn’t cycle the puck effectively at all.

Wuppertal Schwebebahn or Wuppertal Floating Tram, a suspension railway in Wuppertal, Germany (by Neil Pulling).

I’m going to be in Germany next month. Maybe worth going out of my way to ride on this?
